samuraiwriter - collage work
Hello friends,
I have been making collages for quite some time. I want to share my work but I am a bit hesitant.
How would you proceed, if you were me?
My collages are very large and intricate. They take about a year to complete.
I just keep going and going and going. OCD like.
Help me, because I do want to share, just need a safe place.

2) post photos of your work
3) be open to comments/critiques (why else post if you don't want any kind of reaction or feedback)
4) ignore jerky/attack posts
5) make more are and repeat steps 2-5
that's all. i understand your fear but if you enjoy what you are doing and want to share then don't worry about what others think.

Re: Sharing Fear
Title: Protesto
Newpaper Collage on deep canvas. Turkish newspaper Cumhuriyet from the 50's and 60's (No paint, the red in her scarf is the red lettering from the title of the paper.) and an old American classroom newspaper called Classmate from the 1920's.
I made this a while ago during the Istanbul protests over the re-purposing of Gezi Park in Istanbul. I lived in Istanbul for 4 years, so this collage is very personal. It was also my first large work as well as my first attempt at a human being. Previous collages (which I will share) are of buildings/landmarks.

Oh, her sign is open to interpretation for the viewer.
But she has a secret when the lights turn out...

Holy crepe man that's some amazing collage work. The details are nuts! You should def look at trying to walk that into galleries in your area and seeing if they will put that in a group show.

Re: Sharing Fear
Amazing work, please share more! And please be more confident about it!
There's no such thing as crepe art, especially if you are enjoying the creative process. Keep it up. Share your work by Austin Kleon is def. a must read for you. Short, fun book about creating or finding a community

Re: Sharing Fear
I don't know how to edit topic? I checked the FAQ, maybe I missed it.
Thanks for the support. I used to use paint in my earlier collages, but didn't care for the way they looked. I'll share some of those tonight. I intentionally left the sign blank, so the viewer can decide for his/her self. I once considered sending the canvas itself to Shepard Fairey, to see if he wanted to add the message. Collaborating with the artist who was the inspiration for continuing to develop my collages is a dream, albeit a pipe dream. He's got enough on his plate.
Love this community.

Pretty much, just click edit on your original post and you can change it in there
on point like a decimalist?
Re: samuraiwriter - collage work
If you're going to use that as your artist name, then leave it, but I would recommend using your real name and start building a brand for yourself.

Re: Sharing Fear
You could add the stencil Obey image of Kemal Ataturk to the sign as a nod to Shepard.samuraiwriter wrote:I don't know how to edit topic? I checked the FAQ, maybe I missed it.

Title: Galata
Another collage on canvas with old Turkish newspaper and some acrylic paint.
This is when I was experimenting with blending the paint into the collage for shading purposes. Earlier works had an acrylic background with the collage on top but not on the paper.
Again, thank you all for the kind words of support.
