At least an AP image actually has a photojournalistic context that tells a story. If Shepherd is being forced to source his images from a stock photo gallery vs. real geo-political imagery, that seems like a significant departure from past practice. With the Arab Spring, you don't think there is a more genuine source image that could have been used for this print?
One thing to consider is that Shepard may actually know the photographer and he offered the image to him. The photographer happens to sell their work on iStock.
To me the image takes on new meaning with the cropping of the top area, the new body, and illustration style of course. It's a completely different stance.

Mine arrived today... One end cap missing and a big dent in the tube. Amazingly, the print was unscathed.
