Thanks for the kind words so far! Maybe one day I'll be in Visual Disobedience (that'd be slick!)
You can look at the stenciled side, or you can flip it over and listen to one side of a playable Bach (as played on the organ) record. It's really a win-winrobotoil wrote:What albums are you using?

Thanks! I used either 5 or 6 stencils (it depends)...
I painted all the records the olive-ish green base color, then cut a stencil for each color, and presto, they were done There are 2 records that I used 5 stencils on, and 3 records got 1 extra color/stencil, they got a bit of an orange-tan color lightly sprayed on part of the skull to add a bit more color. There was a lot of hauling back and forth to my garage, though. It was cold most times when I was working on them, so I had to keep bringing the spraypaint and painted records in from the cold. The spraypaint can have an odd effect happen to it if you paint a cold surface, or if the paint itself is cold, so I kept everything inside. If it was nice out, it would've went a lot quicker! Sorry I didn't go into greater detail about the actual process, but I'd bet there are many ways to get similar results.

Well, there should be a super clean, small edition (probably 2, maybe up to 4) stenciled run of canvases pretty soon, we'll see. Thanks for asking.admonkey wrote:Any new stuff?
Wow! Thanks, man. That's an awesome compliment coming from you, I appreciate it big time! And, yep, they were definitely fun to work on.Jason Filipow wrote:Nice job, Pat. They look like they were very enjoyable to make...

[6-20-08 edit: Well, this project never left the sketch stage... aw well, on to the next idea, right?!]
The first sketch from the new idea/ possible stenciled 12x24 inch canvas run. I've been thinking of a way to make a powerful image for the latest contest here on thegiant.org... "Law enforcement" I kept seeing images of SWAT team members all geared up... ideas came and went, then I saw the new Obey print, and the lotus sitting position popped into my head, and the details of this setting started to come through.
The main thing with this piece is I'd like it to look kinda like a buddha statue in a peaceful garden at first glance, but when you actually look at it, you see it's a man with body armor (I want to keep him and his reasons very ambiguous) in a possible Middle East/Eastern area.
I really want a thought provoking image that lets the viewer come up to their own conclusions...
There will probably be about 7-10 different stencils/colors for this.
What do you think?! I'd love some early feedback on this.

Great Idea. The sketch is very nice, but he looks like he's just there guarding a door. I think you should take the Buddha idea further and have him sit on a an altar kind of setting and view him from a low point of view so he looks like one of those giant buddha statues, and perhaps make him gold too.

Nice sketch!
What would be even more interesting (if maybe a little contreversial) if you reversed the idea! So instead of a middle Eastern background and a western guard, you take a Western background (eg. the whitehouse) and have a middle Eastern guard in front of it with a machine gun!
Sorry, just thinking aloud!
