1984 is a 1956 movie based on the novel by George Orwell. This is the first theatrical rendition of the story. Donald Pleasence also appeared in the 1954 television version of the film, playing a different part.

The 1956 film version of 1984, in addition to being a terrific adaptation of Orwell's seminal work, is notable in the Obey world for inspiring Shepard's 1999 print Big Brother Collage and his 2000 print Big Brother 2.
